The Gucci 1970 is the new must have bag

Posted by jose167 | Gucci 2012,Gucci Hobo Bag | Tuesday 20 March 2012 8:12 am

It’s been a while since a new bag design has moved me enough to believe it will be the new must have bag. Celine is the brand that truly got everyone’s attention and now that the Luggage Tote hype has dwindled a bit, there is room for a new bag to take center stage. I believe it may be the Gucci 1970 collection of bags.

Gucci delved into its accessories archives for their collection of SS12, and took inspiration from vintage pieces to create the 1970′s shoulder bags. The graphic gold plaques give an art deco nod while the opulent chain tassel detail adds a 1920′s flare.

There are a few versions of the 1970′s shoulder bag, from different materials to different sizes. I can not decide which is my favorite, all I know is I desperately want one of these bags. Sturdy and luscious leather in taupe, black or green or black nubuck are the current offerings on Net-A-Porter. The simple shoulder bag shape is offset with a chain strap detailing.

Both classic and entirely current, it is hard to perfect a simple bag and make it beautiful enough for anyone to want to wear it daily. But Gucci has done this, and not only is this bag the stand out from Gucci’s spring/summer collection but also it is a standout from every brand’s offerings. Prices range from $2,100 to $2,650 via Net-A-Porter.

Gucci Studded Leather Clutch

Casual meets evening in this Studded Leather Clutch by Gucci. Generously sized it’s made of perforated tan leather with a subtle degradé finish. There’s both fine and heavy stitching details on the trim and small golden studs arranged in a grid pattern throughout. The fold-over flap front secures with a bamboo-detailed braided wrap-around strap that finishes in a pair of tassels with decorative knots and holds a signature “G” charm. Under the flap it has a zippered top closure and inside it’s lined with a combination of brown suede and twill. Great for dressing up day-wear or a casual night on the town. $2,400

Gucci Soho Medium Boston Bag

Posted by jose167 | Gucci 2012,Gucci Boston Bag | Monday 2 January 2012 6:19 am

Perhaps it’s merely the inevitable grind onward of the fashion industry that’s causing me to feel this way at the moment, but I’m really sick of winter clothing. We’ve all been looking at the bags, shoes and clothes that are currently on the sale circuit since they debuted at the various global Fashion Weeks nearly 10 months ago, and although resort is starting to slip into stores, it’s stil winter outside and in our closets. Frankly, I’m done with it.

Cold weather may bring with it lots of great texture for accessories, but it usually means darker colors, more neutrals and less fun. What’s the best way to cure that ennui with something that is still totally appropriate to carry right now? Winter white, darlings. Winter white. May I suggest the Gucci Soho Medium Boston Bag?

This is a slightly different Gucci Boston Bag than the one we all know and love, and I think it’s a worthy alternative. The details are a little simpler, the lines a little cleaner, the overall feel a little bit more modern (and, it must be said, more high-end). This slightly ivory shade of white fits in well with winter’s darker mood, but it still stands out as a shining beacon of hope that one day, sometime in the next few months, we’ll all once again be able to wear graphic white with abandon. You know, if you’re not prone to spills.

Cute Gucci Oliver Pug Dog Key Chain

Posted by jose167 | Gucci 2012,Gucci handbag by styles | Sunday 13 November 2011 10:54 am

Have any of you ladies ever seen Life with Father? It’s a 1947 movie starring Irene Dunne and a 15-year-old Elizabeth Taylor, and it is absolutely hysterical. If you’ve never seen it, it’s a great movie to watch with your mom while visiting over the holidays, if you can get your hands on a DVD copy.

I can personally promise that you’ll laugh more than you ever have at a classic movie. The reason that Life with Father is relevant to a post about the Gucci Oliver Pug Dog Key Chain should be obvious to anyone familiar with the movie – in it, Irene Dunne has an unbelievably funny argument with her long-suffering husband over how she intends to get their son a suit of clothes for free from a department store by returning a ceramic statuette of a pug (which she calls a “pug dog” each time she refers to it), and the idea of returning one item to justify the purchase of another and convincing yourself that you’re getting the second for “free” should sound familiar to most shopping addicts. I’d never return this cute little pup, though. Not a chance.

Gucci 1973 Python Bag

Posted by jose167 | Gucci 2012,Gucci Tote Bag | Tuesday 8 November 2011 4:02 am

I wrote a post on this topic approximately 800 years ago, which I cannot find at the moment, but I think it’s a topic worth revisiting in light of the handbag world’s continuing trends. A commenter over at TalkShoes mentioned late last week that she didn’t care for the shoes that match the Gucci 1973 Python Bag because she only likes natural-colored python, and I used to be the exact same way. Clearly, that’s changed.

With Women’s Wear Daily reporting that we can expect to see rainbow

reptile accessories well into 2012, you’re probably either full of

joy or disappointment at the prospect of seeing more candy-colored python on store shelves for at least six months. Even though I was a naysayer in the past, when the colors are as well-chosen as those in the current Gucci collection (and this bag in particular), I’m glad this trend came about.I love it! I think python and green is a natural fit (maybe because I grew up on Harry Potter and it reminds me of Slytherin, hee). Gucci does such a fabulous green python, here and also in the small shoulder bag with horsebit detail. Chloe has a highly covetable small green python paraty on NAP too, more of a mossy green. I love them all.

A little ways off handbags, but I also love the bright blue watersnake Louboutin pumps that were out a wihle ago. There is just something so luxe and compelling about a bright snakeskin.

The Gucci hobo reviews on 2011

Posted by jose167 | Gucci 2011 Collection,Gucci Hobo Bag | Sunday 16 October 2011 7:37 am

For the past season ,gucci hobo feature online with these fabulouis purse:  the Gucci G Coin Medium Hobo, I couldn’t help but think that the whole thing seemed kind of sedate for the Gucci aesthetic. I know that the brand has plenty of simple, clean-lined bags at a variety of price points, but whenever I see one of them, it just seems like they’re missing the point of being Gucci, for cryin’ out loud.

I’m one of the horde of Tom Ford fangirl holdouts, although I enjoy what Frida Giannini is doing with the brand more and more as the seasons go on. In fact, when I disregard the brand, I like what this bag has going on quite a bit.

And The Gucci Pelham Medium Hobo is an excellent example of Gucci’s signature style – textured, supple, and with a bit of color variation that makes all the difference.

And that’s why I like the Gucci New Jackie Guccissima Shoulder Bag. Last season when the New Jackie came out, I wrote about how much I like the functional and comfortable shape of the bag, and that hasn’t changed a bit. When you combine super soft, matte leather with the Guccissima embossed logo, it provides great texture without having to mess with the bag’s structure or premise

Love Gucci’s Fall 2011 ad campaign

Posted by jose167 | Gucci 2011 Collection,Gucci Handbags | Sunday 31 July 2011 6:53 pm

Gucci’s clothing happens to be great but I believe their accessories must be a huge seller for them. This fall they are coming out with gorgeous bags! I already have their tortoise glasses. They’re a great fashion house IMO!

Clothes may get all the love on the runways and in magazine editorials, but when it comes to keeping a business profitable, handbags, shoes and accessories are a company’s bread and butter. Because of increased season-to-season durability and few to no issues with fit, the audience for those items is far broader than it would be for a cocktail dress from the same collection. Brands know this, which is why bags and other accessories always feature so prominently in their advertising.

Gucci’s Fall 2011 ad campaign, shot by photography duo Merte & Marcus, shows just how well-acquainted the Italian brand is with the importance of bags, shoes and eyewear. Only a couple of the dozen shots feature ready-to-wear clothing by itself; all the rest shift their focus to the real objects of desire. Just as it should be. The rest of the shots, after the jump.

Gucci None-Logo Boston Bag

Posted by jose167 | Gucci 2011 Collection,Gucci Shoulder Bag,Gucci Tote Bag | Tuesday 28 June 2011 6:48 pm

I’m sure that we’re do for a revival of the logo bag any season now. Fashion’s like that; the trends you hate always come back around more quickly than the ones for which you feel genuine nostalgia. Some brands still do a very brisk business in their logo bags; Louis Vuitton has always been at the top of that list, but Gucci isn’t far behind. And while it surely makes the company a ton of money and is important for branding purposes, logos have just never been my cup of tea.

But that’s why I’m such a big fan of the Gucci Boston Canvas Duffle and bags like it. Gucci occasionally uses this jacquard diamond-check canvas in place of the brand’s normal logo fabric, and it is such an improvement in my eyes. This bag looks stately and classic without the unnecessary Gs, and that’s exactly the appeal of the non-logo logo.

A non-logo logo can come in many forms. A Balenciaga motorcycle bag’s signature hardware counts, as does the hand-painted pattern of Goyard’s coated canvas bags. What doesn’t count? Any type of monogram or symbol that’s widely used as the company’s principle brand identifier. The Louis Vuitton “LV” is out, as is the Versace Medusa head. Choosing a secondary identifier helps reign in the ostentation quality of a logo bag and gives the end result a more subtle effect, which is exactly why this Gucci bag seems staid and dignified in a British heritage sort of way rather than flashy and obvious like a logo bag.

And that’s not to say that flashy and obvious is an objectively bad thing – I love both flashy and obvious, and in the right moment, even I sometimes love it in a logo bag. But for a piece that you want to carry regularly and for a long time, I’d choose something like this bag over a more obvious logo. It still retains the recognizability among handbag lovers, it just does so in a slightly more indirect way. Whoever said that discretion is the greater part of valor was right, even when it comes to accessories. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $960.
